The mother of jailed crime boss George Marrogi faces losing her house while her killer son languishes in jail.

Marrogi is serving a 32-year sentence for the shooting murder of Kadir Ors outside Campbellfield Plaza in 2016, and has also been convicted of high-level drug trafficking.

His mother, Madlin Enwiya, is now struggling financially and is facing forfeiture on her home, the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard.

Enwiya also struggles with a pokies addiction, gambling almost daily, while she cares for her 94-year-old mother.

Her gambling addiction had worsened as she struggled to come to terms with her son’s jailing and the death of her daughter Meshlin Marrogi, 30, from Covid in 2021, the court was told. On Thursday, Enwiya, 56, pleaded guilty to dealing with cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime.

Marrogi’s girlfriend Antonietta Mannella and younger brother Jesse also pleaded guilty to the same charge.

The three members of Marrogi’s inner circle were among more than a dozen people facing court as a result of Operation Steelers, a Victorian Police probe into how the Notorious Crime Family moved the proceeds of their vast criminal empire via a money laundering syndicate.

Jesse Marrogi received 14 payments of $10,000 each from big sister Meshlin with the aim of helping him start his own luxury car dealership with associate Danny Younan.

The death of Meshlin led to Jesse Marrogi relapsing into drug abuse and using the money as a gambling fund instead.

In March last year the youngest Marrogi sibling placed 120 bets totalling $385,000, the court heard.

Mannella received 3 payments totalling $110,000 over a 3-day period in April 2021 via a money laundering network connected to Marrogi.

She did not report this as suspicious despite the fact her total income for the 2021 financial year was $94,931.

Mannella appeared via video link from prison as she serves time for helping boyfriend George run his criminal empire from behind bars. Her mental health has deteriorated as a result of her imprisonment, defence lawyer Sam Tovey told the court.

The payments to Enwiya were disguised as wages for a second job which did not exist. She received 27 payments from her druglord son totalling $77,880, the court was told.

Enwiya’s lawyer implored the magistrate to spare her from prison.

Enwiya, Marrogi and Mannella will be sentenced for the cash charges later this month
