Labor ministers soak up European summer
State MPs usually keep a low profile when they jet off overseas during parliament’s winter break. But the travels of one minister have become the surprisingly public talk of Spring St.
‘Tis the season of parliamentary travel, where MPs find obscure conferences to attend in the name of work, slug the taxpayer, and head to Europe for the summer.
And while most keep a low profile, the winter travels of new minister Nick Staikos, who looks after local government, has been the talk of Spring St this week.
That’s in large part because his new fiancee Loretta made sure to post regular updates from their European getaway.
Athens, Crete, Rome, the Amalfi Coast. The fun didn’t stop!
Staikos has been visibly more active on his work social media of late, and Baz can’t help but wonder if it’s the inspiration of his fiancee. (He has even kept posting Labor announcements on Instagram during his trip, as though he is not gallivanting around Europe).
The happy couple also met up with colleagues including Ros Spence – who had partner Kos Samaras from polling firm RedBridge in tow – and Katie Hall and Steve Dimopoulos for a conference in Athens.
The Source can only wonder how long until the soon-to-be Mrs Staikos is told to lock down her private social media page?
