IT is said that it’s what’s on the inside that counts, and when it comes to these special pooches, you can’t help but feel fuzzy.
Award-winning animal photographer Alex Cearns has compiled her favourite snaps of some not-so-average canines in her picture book, Perfect Imperfection.

Cearns said the dogs, which had been through physical trauma such as amputations, neglect and disease, not only tugged on the heart strings, but also acted as symbols of perseverance and inspiration.
“The tenacity of animals to overcome adversity never ceases to amaze me,” she said.
“They make the most out of life and have taught me to see the positive in every situation.”
Based in Perth, Cearns has been in the business since 2008, and photographs more than 1000 domestic pets each year.
“I love every animal I have the privilege of photographing, but those perceived as ‘different’ really hold a special place in my heart,” she said.
A percentage from each sale of Perfect Imperfection will be donated to the Australian Animal Cancer Foundation.
