More than 400 VIPS are set to flood the new beachfront ballroom of The Langham, Gold Coast, for the grand opening of the long-awaited luxury hotel.

Following months of staged launches, which saw the hotel welcome its first guests from June, The Langham’s services have now opened in their entirety.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was set to join Mayor Tom Tate and other dignitaries at the ball, held in the Diamond Ballroom in Jewel’s north tower.

Guests were greeted with Hollywood-style flashing lights, a red carpet and champagne, with the hotel’s partners Porsche, BVLGARI and Moet adding to the glam factor.

Guests can now book to relax, stay and eat at the hotel’s venues including 26 & Sunny cafe, the T’ang Court and Akoya restaurants, bars Palm Court, Lobby Bar and Coral Moon, as well as the luxurious Chuan Spa.

General manager John O’Shea said the highly anticipated final opening of all Langham experiences marked a true celebration for the hotel.

“We’ve been thrilled to welcome so many guests through our doors since first opening in June of this year and have received extraordinary support from locals and travellers from near and far,,” he said.

“Our teams have been hard at work for the past four months to perfect our range of bar, dining and wellness offerings, ensuring everything from menus and recipes through to the fit-outs and colourways reflect each venue’s individual personality that we know guests will feel the minute they walk through the door.

“These new experiences are the final jewels in our crown and the cherry on top to The Langham, Gold Coast truly becoming Australia’s best luxury destination.”

The hotel has already proven very popular, with its high-end suites being booked out almost every weekend since June.

$5800/night hotel booked solid as wealthy look for luxe

September 5, 2022: At up to $5800/night, the Chairman’s Ocean Suite at The Langham Gold Coast is an unjustifiable luxury for most, but that hasn’t stopped it being booked out almost every weekend since the hotel launched in June.

General manager John O’Shea said the hotel had enjoyed around 80 per cent weekend occupancy since it launched in June, but its high-end suites were booking out at a higher rate.

“Weekends are busier than the weekdays, but we’ve hit 85 per cent on a Saturday night in the hotel and that’s becoming a regular Saturday occupancy,” he said.

“Forward booking are looking great, in fact our next busy season will be our school holidays in September for Victoria and New South Wales and we should have our residences open at that time as well.

“Actually, we’re amazed because our suite occupancy is higher than our main hotel occupancy and, almost every weekend, someone buys our Chairman’s Suite for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

“I’m absolutely amazed by that because, in my career, that doesn’t happen that frequently.”

Destination Gold Coast head of stakeholders and strategy Rachel Hancock said an increasing number of holidaymakers were seeking out luxury travel.

“venues and experiences like this are important to appeal to this new era of domestic and international visitors,” she said.

“The Gold Coast offers a decadent array of luxury accommodation, fine dining and 5-star experiences within a 45-minute radius.

“From exclusive rooftop pool clubs like Isoletto and Cali Beach Club, to lavish hotels including The Langham, The Darling and JW Marriott along with blissful Hinterland escapes with picturesque vineyards and spas – the Gold Coast allows visitors to really tailor their luxury experience.

“It’s not a one-size-fits-all offering. But what I believe the Gold Coast really excels at is entrepreneurial spirit where tourism operators just get in and have a go – and the results are amazing.”

Mr O’Shea said his hotel was helping to fill a gap in the market.

“I think there’s a genuine luxury traveller that may have been looking for something like The Langham for a while and, now that we’re here, are able to spoil themself in such a beautiful room,” he said.

Another hotel newcomer, Dorsett Gold Coast, has also enjoyed heavy bookings since launch.

“Since we opened our doors on Boxing Day last year, we’ve been non-stop,” sales and marketing director Ashley Britnell said.

“We’re seeing a trend in short lead stays, which sees the Dorsett Gold Coast consistently operating at high occupancies, particularly on weekends and in the busy school holiday periods.”

The Langham launched its hotel component in June, but will mark its full launch, incorporating its serviced Jewel Residences, full complement of restaurants, bars and health spa with a grand opening on October 21.

Another new luxury hotel, boutique Burleigh Heads project Mondrian, is set to open mid next year.

Would you pay $5800/night to stay here?

The Gold Coast’s newest top-end hotel suite is also shaping as its most expensive, with its $5800/night price tag eclipsing those of its luxury rivals.

The Chairman’s Ocean Suite is on the 20th floor of newly-opened The Langham, has two bedrooms and two separate lounge areas, a full-size study, dining area, and butler’s pantry.

While room rates frequently fluctuate due to supply and demand, the suite is priced significantly higher than its competitors on the Coast, when compared for the same weekend night in September.

Others jostling for the same exclusive clientele include The Darling Penthouse Deluxe suites, which could be booked for the same night at $4290, JW Marriott Presidential Suite at $3340, Versace Imperial Suite $3269, and The Sheraton Grand Mirage Presidential Suite $2599.

As well as its hotel rooms, The Langham has also opened reservations on its two, three and four-bedroom apartment-style Jewel Residences, which can be secured from between $1869 to $3520/night.

Topping the holiday apartments, well above the hotel rooms on level 49, is the four-bedroom penthouse, boasting ensuited accommodation for up to eight guests.

The Langham said bookings had been strong since reservations opened in May.

The hotel and some of its restaurants and bars were launched in a glitzy function on June 23, with the remaining residences, restaurants and spa set to open in Spring.

The hotel’s launch is also a likely catalyst for a marketing drive to sell residential apartments in the remaining two Jewel towers, which have been largely vacant and effectively off-market for three years.

The Langham is the first new hotel with direct beachfront access to be built on the Gold Coast in more than 30 years.
