The Langham Gold Coast has partnered with a long-time local events company Dreamweavers to stage vibrant conferences and galas in the sparkling new hotel tower.

The long-awaited hotel is set for launch midway through this year, and will incorporate Australia’s only five-star, beachfront ballroom.

Langham Gold Coast and Jewel Residences general manager John O’Shea said the partnership with Dreamweavers would reimagine event service, styling and delivery.

“As we countdown to our grand opening, we have cemented a strong bond that will ensure The Langham, Gold Coast delivers the most unique, streamlined, and creative event guest experience in the country,” he said.

“From group business meetings and grand galas for up to 400 attendees to intimate gatherings and small corporate functions, The Langham will undoubtedly become the new pulse of the Gold Coast and a beacon of hope for a recovering industry."

Dreamweavers managing director John Harris, whose producers have been responsible for more than 4000 events in 22 years, described The Langham as “one of the most spectacular blank canvases in the world”.

“Right on the doorstep of the Pacific Ocean, at The Langham, Gold Coast we will offer the most unique, convenient, turnkey event packages and event solutions in the country,” he said.

“We will offer events and conferences that change perceptions with the ability to offer immersive touchpoints that captivate, engage and inspire.”

Two bizarre things holding up $1.4bn Jewel hotel

February 11: Inaugural guests at the first new Gold Coast beachfront hotel in 30 years can book their stays from the middle of the year, as the Langham Hotel and Residences prepares to launch.

Almost eight years after the project broke ground in 2014 – when it was mooted for a 2018 completion – rolling suitcases will replace the rumbling machinery on Old Burleigh Rd.

Jewel Gold Coast is still a construction site – but an end is in sight.

While the launch date has been eroded by ownership changes, union scuffles and a federal government ban on a Chinese chairman, this year’s holdup is ordinary by comparison: the hotel’s sheets and plates are yet to arrive.

Langham Gold Coast and Jewel Residences general manager John O’Shea said while the hotel’s fit-out was nearing completion, an exact launch date remained unknown.

“The construction work is still very much on track, it’s just the supply chain that we’re uncertain of at the moment,” he said.

“Even though we’ve ordered all our operating supplies and equipment – things like glassware, linen, chinaware, silver kitchen equipment – we haven’t yet got a confirmation from the suppliers when that’s arriving.

“In the next couple of months we should know for sure.”

The Langham will be housed in Jewel’s central and tallest tower, which is flanked by two completed but largely unsold residential towers.

No apartments have been sold at Jewel in the past two years, with the owners, AW Holdings, saying they were waiting for the hotel to launch before marketing would recommence.

Langham will operate the 169 rooms and suites between the third and 20th floors of the 49-storey central tower and will also manage 170 serviced apartments between the 22nd and top floor.

Mr O’Shea said the opening would be “more towards the middle of the year than the end of the year”.

The site remains busy, with contractors putting the final touches on marble floors and lighting, with furniture being delivered and kitchens being equipped.

Large outdoor sculptures have been hoisted into place, the kitchens and offices are equipped and the Langham signage went up at the porte cochere this week.

Mr O’Shea said he was relieved not to be opening during the Omicron phase of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“If it’s going to be the middle or late part of the year, the more distance we can have between now and then the better it will be in terms of the normal world, hopefully,” he said.

“I’m very excited about getting Gold Coast locals in to see what they’ve been looking at for eight years coming out of the ground.

“We really want to be making a great impression on the local customers, so we just can’t wait to take people around when we get the chance to be able to do that.”

Mr O’Shea has said Langham Gold Coast would be “the best Gold Coast hotel in a generation” and would create more than 350 new jobs for the city.

Jewel’s owner, AW Holdings, is one of many in a web of ownership since Wanda Group sold out in 2018, with some strands connected to Chinese property behemoth Evergrande.

Evergrande last year defaulted on $400bn in debts, sending shivers throughout the world economy.
