Every year, the Gertrude Street Projection Festival pulls something new out of the bag. See projection artwork by Kate Geck and a special installation titled Ignite which shows swooping, observational projections on housing estates. That’s a bright idea.

Jhene Aiko

In this age where some levels of success are measured on Facebook likes, Jhené Aiko (US) is doing OK with 1.7 million fans. Aiko has played with Childish Gambino, Vince Staples, Kendrick Lamar and just knocked off a 39-city jaunt with Drake through North America. She has a new remix out for Never Call Me feat YG. It’s smooth R & B with a street edge.

Del Kathryn Barton’s Self-portrait with studio wife is one of myriad highlights from the Archibald Prize. Today at 11am, there’s a “Creative conversation: The Prize — Benjamin Aitken, Nicholas Harding and Anne Ryan”. Melbourne trio Even doesn’t suffer fools. The group’s seventh album, Satin Returns, is a ripper and it has a new clip for The Opener. “We reverted to a traditional approach for this clip, no hipster irony, no subplots, just the band playing live and me mincing in front of a camera while I still have a full rock mop to play with and my trusty old Epiphone Casino 6-string being the true star,” Ash Naylor quips. Let the boys entertain you on AFL Grand Final holiday eve with hits such as Black Umbrella, Stop and Go Man and Shining Star. Sweet licks.

Try chilli prawn coriander shu mai, braised duck leg dumpling with Sichuan tea-smoked duck breast and long jing tea soup, flame thrower pulled pork dumplings, pine mushroom and celeriac. Oh my goodness.

The Listies (the artists formerly known as The List Operators) will stage shows of Ickypedia after a sold out run at the Arts Centre Melbourne. The kidults bring the “best-smelling book Ickypedia: A Dictionary of Disgusting New Words” to the stage. They’ll answer the question on everyone’s lips: how do you take a smellfie?

Justine Clarke will roll out hits from her TV show and new album The Justine Clarke Show — from singing songs that make you chuckle to stomping like a stegosaurus. Everyone will help Clarke bust out a silly ditty as the grand finale.

Getting lost in music on a dance floor is a feeling that can’t be replicated. SPIN is a dance party inspired by club scenes in San Francisco, Mexico, Cuba and Berlin. This is a terrific, wholesome day. Enjoy a picturesque trek from Belgrave or Lakeside stations, winding through lush pockets of the Dandenong Ranges. Stop off and hit the bakeries. Yum.

Escape the Gaol

Wily inmates, sorry, participants aged six and up must explore their surroundings to discover all the necessary clues to create the perfect escape plan. The only thing is they can’t be discovered by the prison guards.
