Explore western Victoria’s natural beauties — there’s the Otway Fly treetop walk, The Pinnacle at the Grampians and the Mallee’s pink salt lakes.

Catch a bird’s eye view of eastern Victoria from skies above the Yarra Valley, with a sunrise hot-air balloon flight.

Or for something special, farewell the day at Victoria’s highest point Mount McKay.

SEVEN INSTA-WORTHY PHOTO PLACES IN VICTORIA

1. WANDER TO GRIFFITHS ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE

It’s been guiding ships to Port Fairy since 1859 through the Moyne River. While there are no formal tours of the site, it’s worth taking a short walk to check out the feature at the pointy end of the island.

2. CLIMB TO NEW HEIGHTS ON THE OTWAY FLY TREETOP WALK

Experience the Otways by heading to the rainforest. The treetop walk is 25m of elevated walkway through the rainforest. Head to the 45m Spiral Tower above Young’s Creek for an exhilarating experience.

3. SEE THE SUNRISE FROM A HOT-AIR BALLOON

Welcome another day from the sky in a hot-air balloon above the picturesque Yarra Valley. Most flights have expert commentary on the area and are followed by an optional champagne breakfast at a winery.

4. CLIMB TO THE PINNACLE AT THE GRAMPIANS

Speaking of climbing, a must-see in the region is The Pinnacle lookout at the Grampians National Park. Make the trek from the Sundial carpark, which will take you 45 minutes to an hour, or the Wonderland carpark — a 90-minute journey on tougher terrain.

5. FAREWELL THE DAY AT VICTORIA’S HIGHEST POINT

Mt McKay is the highest drivable peak in the country, at 1842m. From the mountain you’ll have clear views of Falls Creek Alpine Resort, the Kiewa Valley and Mt Bogong, Pretty Valley, Mt Hotham, Mt Feathertop and Rocky Valley Lake.

6. TAKE IN THE AIR AT THE PINK SALT LAKES

The pink lakes in the Mallee region are a photographer’s (or Instagrammer’s) delight. The pink, purple and while hues are a spectacle at the Murray Sunset National Park. Lake Crosbie and Lake Hardy are particularly spectacular after it rains. It’s worth the six-hour drive from Melbourne, or two-hour drive south of Mildura.

7. CHECK OUT VICTORIA’S WILD WEST

Complete with cactus and tumbleweed, Cactus Country in Strathmerton is home to more than 4000 species of cactuses and succulents from around the world. Walk through eight different gardens before lunch at the Mexican-themed cafe. The cactus ice-cream (made with the cactus fruit) and cactus cake, made from the opuntia cactus out the back, are must-eats. cactuscountry.com.au
