Playing out on Melbourne’s roads in full view of the public, violent acts of road rage create shock and awe.

While nearly half of all Australian’s admit to showing signs of anger to other motorists, most would leave it at a few swear words or a rude gesture.

A study by insurer Budget Direct found three in four Victorian road users had been subject to a form of road rage.

Worryingly, more than six per cent also said they had been hurt or threatened with violence from another road user.

From street brawls to brazen attacks with weapons, these are the most terrifying road rage incidents in Melbourne’s west over the past year.

Bill Kontogeorgis

Truck driver Bill Kontogeorgis got more than he bargained for when he tried to run down his estranged wife and her new partner on November 9 last year.

The 59-year-old had been following a car containing the pair during peak hour on Ballarat Rd in Deer Park when he rammed the vehicle off the road.

The incident only ended when he was pulled from the car and beaten unconscious with a shovel – left lying face down on the road when paramedics arrived.

Part of the attack was caught on video and played before a court as Kontogeorgis was jailed for two years and three months.

Shane Couch

It’s alleged Mr Couch was shirtless and “aggravated” when he approached a car, repeatedly punching a father and using a wooden picket during the altercation.

The panic led to a three-car ”domino-like collision” before nearby police arrived.

It is not clear what sparked the alleged tirade and Mr Couch will return to court on September 21.

Newmarket Plaza

Two Armaguard security guards were left shaken after an alleged road rage incident at Newmarket Plaza in December last year.

It‘s understood the Armaguard van was turning into the carpark from Racecourse Rd when it was nearly hit by a red hatchback.
