Two people have lost their home and been taken to hospital after a house fire on the western outskirts of Melbourne.
Thirty firefighters alongside 11 firefighting appliances rushed to a property on Argyll Circuit in Melton West about 1.40pm on Monday following multiple calls to triple-0 about smoke and flames.
At the address they found a fire that covered half of a single-storey brick and tile house.
Crews wore breathing apparatuses and tackled the blaze before extinguishing hotspots in the roof.
The home was evacuated of three dogs and two people, who were taken to The Alfred hospital.
A man suffered burns and a woman is under medical observation.
The blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes, but the house was severely damaged, with evident structural collapse.
An advice message was issued warning that heavy smoke would be visible from nearby roads.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
