A 25-year-old Dartmoor man has been remembered as a gentleman on and off the field after he was killed in a car crash near Hamilton.

A young footballer killed in a crash at Greenwald near Hamilton was loved “on and off the field”.

Korrey Smith, 25 of Dartmoor, died after a single-vehicle crash on Easter Monday.

The Dartmoor Football and Netball club, for which Mr Smith donned number 54 and played footy, paid tribute to their “club legend”.

“The DFNC would like to send their deepest condolences to Aileen, Pud and Carol, Amy, Holly, partner Bek and the extended Smith family on the passing of one of our club legends,” the club said in a statement.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 4.30am in Greenwald, about 90km west of Hamilton, following reports a car had hit a tree.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
