Travis Cloke knows his return to country footy is more than about the four quarters he will play.

The former Collingwood and Western Bulldogs power forward will pull on the boots for Heathmere in the South West District league this weekend.

The Magpies are chasing their first win of the season against Westerns who sit second last on the ladder.

“It’s going to be a great day, hopefully I can kick a few goals and we can get a win,” Cloke said.

“Living in a small community town myself now, I understand how important these types of occasions can be to the footy club. It is a game of footy but it’s an opportunity to bring people together.”

With sunshine forecast for the occasion, Cloke isn’t expecting to need the glove which he donned during his AFL career, although it could make an appearance.

“I’ve got a full bag at home,” he joked.

“I might have to bring it out if it does start to rain.”

Cloke has played a handful of game since retiring from the AFL including four for Nullawil in the North Central league last year.

He said his fitness is as “good as it could be”.

“I’m still doing the running regularly for Essendon which is my main exercise,” he said.

Saturday’s game is set to get underway at 2.45pm at Heathmere Recreation Reserve.

Westerns won the previous meeting between the two sides by 45 points.
