Warrnambool is a tourist hotspot over the school holidays, which is why we’ve created a guide for holiday-goers this Easter.
The long weekend will feature a number of kid-friendly events.
The Warrnambool and District Easter Arts Festival will host performances by the Lakes and Craters Band and Warrnambool City Bank at Lake Pertobe April 16, and an Easter sunrise service at Cannon Hill April 17.
Easter Arts Festival director John Stephen says the band performances at Lake Pertobe were not to be missed.
Two markets will be on over the Easter weekend, including the Fresh Farmers Market Warrnambool at Lake Pertobe Easter Sunday, and the undercover Easter Sunday Market at the Warrnambool Showgrounds.
Step back in time at Warrnambools’ Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum and Village over the school holidays, with multiple educational experiences and easier activities for children and adults.
Activities include kids craft, a day in the life of a common school student, marvellous medicines and an Easter egg search activity with chocolate prizes.
A school holiday favourite is returning this Easter, the Warrnambool Family Carnival on Tour at Pertobe Rd.
Open from April 8 to 18, 6pm until late, the carnival includes dodgem cars, zipper ride, games for all ages and a new addition, one of Australia’s fastest rides – the Scorpion.
Beaches to soak up the good weather these school holidays include Warrnambool Main Beach, Logans Beach, Lady Bay, Stingray Bay and Flume bay.
A number of hospitality businesses are closing over the Easter long weekend, however Elements Restaurant and Bar will remain open.
Specials on the menu include hickory smoked lamb shoulder, parmesan and herb crusted snapper fillet, with hot cross bun pudding and mini egg cheesecakes for desert.
Bookings are still available, and walk-ins are accepted after 8pm.
A favourite stop for all things pastry is Warrnambool’s Browns Depot Bakery.
A traditional bakery with bread loafs, salad rolls, pastries and a cafe, you will find all of the picnic food you need for your school holiday adventures.
Browns Depot Bakery will not be open over the Easter long weekend, but will be back open Tuesday 19 for the remaining school holidays.
With lots on offer in Warrnambool this school holidays, Surfside Holiday Park manager Paul McNamara is not surprised their surfside park is booked out — it’s the busiest Easter yet.
“We’re looking at around 750 to 800 arrivals over the long weekend,” he said.
“The big draw card we’ve got direct access to the beach – the weather is looking really positive this weekend, and Lake Pertobe is a showpiece.”
Their seasonal park, Shipwreck Bay Holiday Park, still has availability for last minute trips to the south-west coast.
