BATSMEN dominated the opening day of Round 5 in Premier Cricket First XI as six scores of 125 or better were amassed.
St Kilda’s 5-378, Prahran’s 5-366 and Casey-South Melbourne’s 9-329 were the highest totals on Saturday as seven of the nine batting teams posted totals of at least 249 runs.

Openers
Adam Bull (Prahran) — Batted for more than six hours for his 151 against Greenvale Kangaroos, going within 12 runs of his best score for the True Blues from 2013-14.
Josh Manning (St Kilda) — Made the most of Northcote’s decision to elect to bowl after winning the toss with 137 from 252 deliveries, sharing a 249-run second-wicket stand with Ben Davies.
Middle-order
Ben Davies (St Kilda) — Four scores of 83 or better since the start of 2018-19 for Davies after he compiled 133 at the Junction Oval on Saturday. He’s in rare touch.
David King (Ringwood) — A brilliant hand from the Rams talisman of 131 against Footscray, facing 287 balls and only falling just before stumps. The third of four openers in the team this week!
Brett Forsyth (Dandenong) — The milestone man ensured his 200th game was remembered for a sterling knock, batting all day for 125 not out. There’s a fair chance he kicks on this weekend too.
Michael Wallace (Casey-South Melbourne) — After peeling off a century in the seconds last round, Wallace returned to the First XI with a bang. Batting at no.5, he contributed 125 for the Swans, putting on a 161-run sixth-wicket partnership with Devin Pollock (83).
Wicketkeeper
Isaac Conway (Essendon) — Based on runs, you’d give the spot to Pollock, but Conway snared four dismissals and was involved in a run out against Kingston Hawthorn. Three of his four catches were from the bowling of quick Matt Doric.
Bowlers
Xavier Crone (Carlton) — The Blues batted on Saturday and Crone topscored with 75 from 89 balls at No.8. He sealed his selection in the team of the week by picking up a late wicket to leave Frankston Peninsula 1-8 heading into day two.
Steven Reid (Melbourne Uni) — Reid snared 4-35 from 15.5 overs against Geelong, helping the Students dismiss the Cats for 188. But he’ll likely be needed with the bat after Melbourne Uni fell to 5-57 by stumps.
Addy Campion (Carlton-Brunswick) — The Strikers skipper produced a match-changing spell in her club’s Premier firsts tie on Sunday against Plenty Valley, inspiring a lower-order collapse to finish with 5-10.
Will Walker (Camberwell Magpies) — The sole five-wicket haul from Premier men’s First XI on Saturday as left-armer Walker collected 5-44 against Casey South Melbourne.
