EMERGING English batter Ellie Mason will link up with Carlton-Brunswick this summer to boost the club’s stocks for its inaugural season in Women’s Premier firsts.

Reports from the UK suggest Mason made more than 1000 runs in 2016, highlighting her talents, and she has played for Cheshire’s women team.

Strikers coach Karl Mayne said Mason’s signing was achieved through a family connection to Carlton-Brunswick.

“She’s the cousin of one of our Hatch players from last year,” Mayne said.

“Through that family connection we saw if Ellie was interested and she has made a lot of runs in junior cricket in England.

“We’re looking forward to getting her over and having her as part of the club in our first crack at Premier firsts.”

The 19-year-old will join a talented batting line-up which compiled 2431 runs across the one-day and Twenty20 formats last season.

“(She has) lots of experience and we will really be looking to her to lead the middle order with a few of our other more experienced players,” Mayne said.

The Strikers have appointed Adelaide Campion as skipper to lead them against the state’s best women’s sides in 2018-19.

Carlton-Brunswick and Ringwood were promoted as a result of a restructure of Women’s Premier and will take on powerhouses Essendon-Maribyrnong Park and Box Hill.

“It’s just excitement,” Mayne said.

“There aren’t really any expectations how we might play in terms of wins and losses. It’s just going to be about a real learning curve for the girls.”

The Strikers have been a perennial contender in Premier seconds, reaching four consecutive grand finals and winning a one-day premiership.

Mayne said Carlton-Brunswick would field a similar First XI team to last summer, when Lily Tassell, Alex Rogers and Laura Crofts were keys to its success.

“Our main priority is to try and be developing local players in the region and the girls that have been with us the past couple of years,” he said.

“We have had good success with them and we are confident they will be able to take us further as well.”
