GEELONG GRAMMAR defeated MELBOURNE GRAMMAR

Geelong Grammar just about won everything in their game against reigning premiers Melbourne Grammar.

It started at the coin toss which they called correctly and used to send Melbourne Grammar in for a bat after their hour-long morning ride down the highway.

It took a while for the first wicket to come for the home side, although once claimed at 1-51, they continued to tumble unrelentingly.

Geelong Grammar took 6-36 after the first dismissal with Oliver Peake starring, bowling three maidens and taking 5-15 from his 10 overs.

Following the standout performance with the ball, Peake also belted nine fours and a maximum with the bat to score 67 from 77 balls.

He finished not out in the run chase of 159 alongside Henry Melville who top scored with 70.

Both Victorian premier cricket Geelong prospects steered their side to a comfortably victory, chasing 159 one wicket down after 33.5 overs.

The win keeps Geelong Grammar undefeated with two wins and a bye while Melbourne Grammar are 1-2.

HAILEYBURY defeated WESLEY

A stunning run-a-ball century from Wesley’s Will Scott did not prove to be enough for his side as a hungry Haileybury were able to secure their first win of the season.

Having lost the toss and being sent in, while wickets fell around Scott, he was able to hold the fort and help his side reach a respectable total before rain hit and ended the innings at 8-183 from 47 overs.

No one other than Scott made over 15 runs proving how important his contribution was.

He hit 12 fours and a six in his innings of 124 off 125 deliveries, the second highest score of the APS season after Haileybury’s Mitchell Kirkwood-Scott’s big century in round two.

Nicholas Tindall was a notable performer with the ball for Haileybury taking 3-27 off nine overs.

Needing 184 for victory, Haileybury reached 6-151 from 29.1 overs in a rain affected game and were deemed victors over Wesley.

Haileybury opener Zac Grech was the star with the bat scoring 71 from 88 balls which featured three fours and two impressive sixes.

ST KEVIN’S defeated by BRIGHTON GRAMMAR

Brighton Grammar were sent in to bat by St Kevin’s and relished at the opportunity by posting a big total of 6-280, the highest of the APS season so far.

There were three major contributors for Brighton which included Alex Turner (89), Cooper Rojko (74) and Moe Spencer (54) who also hit half-centuries and continued their running ways this season.

Samuel Mazza was crucial with the ball for St Kevin’s taking half his team’s wickets with 3-42 off 10 overs.

With the bat, Mazza then gave his side a chance of a spectacular run chase, scoring an elegant half century of 65 from 90 balls.

Then, after a promotion to eight following his eye-catching 81 in round one, Jordie McElhone also gave the big total a crack with six fours and a six to score 44, although it wasn’t enough.

St Kevin’s were eventually bowled out for 204 from 46.3 overs with Nicholas Robertson producing a wonderful performance with the ball, taking 4-45 from 8.3 overs.

SCOTCH defeated GEELONG COLLEGE

Scotch produced an impressive team performance to knock off Geelong College in style at home.

After winning the toss and sending Geelong College in, early play was going the way of the visitors when the first wicket didn’t fall till 75 and third wicket until 151.

Top three batters Charlie Larsen (54), Tom Patterson (42) and Will Stoney (24) were the three highest scorers for Geelong College.

The momentum then suddenly shifted Scotch’s way with the home side taking a remarkable 5-4 in 15 balls led by Harry Jones (3-45) and Orlando Pender (2-39).

Ashwin Appu was also valuable for Scotch with 3-14 from 6.2 overs helping bowl Geelong College out for 179.

In the run chase, Scotch made light work of the total chasing it down in 37.4 overs with Michael Winneke leading the way with 73 followed by Luca Van Der Sluys who made 50.

The win has Scotch 2-1 while Geelong College remain winless from two games and a bye to start the season.

CAREY defeated by XAVIER

Xavier had a day out against Carey on their home deck as they cruised to a comfortable victory.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Carey showed early signs of promise until the first wicket fell at 1-22 followed by 2-23 and then 3-24.

All of a sudden, with Carey’s top batters dismissed which included a pair of ducks, the game suddenly fell in Xavier’s favour.

Xavier Austin was the pick of the bowlers for Xavier taking 2-16 from 10 overs including four maidens.

Carey managed to bat the full 50 overs although they only reach a total of 121 which was always going to be a challenge to defend.

Xavier chased it with ease as opener Benjamin Wickham top scoring with an unbeaten 48 to bring home the win four wickets down in 32 overs.

The win keeps Xavier undefeated with three wins while Carey are winless.

CAULFIELD had the bye.
