Xavier Austin was the pick of the bowlers for Xavier taking 3-24 from 10 overs.

In the run chase, Scotch’s Laxman Appu gave his side a chance of a come-from-behind victory at the end when he took three of the last four wickets.

The feat ignited fear in Xavier as they were 7-135 requiring 12 runs for victory.

Xavier’s unbeaten batters Nicholas Francis (24*) and Simon Greene (6*) brought the win home however with eight balls to spare.

The win keeps Xavier unbeaten after the first two games to start the season.

Brighton came away victorious in a high-scoring encounter between the two APS schools.

Being sent in to bat, Mitchell Kirkwood-Scott was a lone soldier for Haileybury scoring a blistering century of 133 from 100 balls.

The early completion of the first innings meant Haileybury missed out on facing 51 balls at the end.

In the run chase, Moe Spencer played a match-winning knock of 81 off 123 deliveries to steer his side to a strong position for victory.

Oscar Newstead’s contribution was vital at the end, scoring 42 including two eye-catching sixes to help his side to its second win of the season after 47.5 overs in the run chase.

Haileybury’s Freddie Arnhold was a notable performer with the ball taking four wickets.

The win for Brighton is their second of the season keeping them undefeated after finishing in bottom position last season.

MELBOURNE GRAMMAR defeated by ST KEVIN’S

Reigning APS premiers Melbourne Grammar sent in St Kevin’s on their home deck.
