AGSV Cricket: Will Stamper and Thomas Kenny lead the way

The AGSV Cricket season returns this weekend with a number of youngsters looking to continue their fine form in the competition. See the list of the players to watch here.

It has been an exciting start to the AGSV cricket season with a number of individuals shining bright for their schools.

Mentone hold top spot on the ladder with two wins and three draws and Assumption are in second place with two wins and two draws.

The beginning of the season was marred by wet weather leading to wash out draws for every school. Some suffered from additional called off games due to the poor cricket weather.

Following the conclusion of term four sporting action after five rounds, Leader Cricket has identified the key players shaping the AGSV Cricket season.

Will Stamper, Camberwell

The leading run scorer of the AGSV season has started the campaign in fine form. Will Stamper has scored two mega half-centuries of 87 and 91* for Camberwell and has been a major contributor to their positive start to the season. He has a total of 211 runs from three innings and looks to be a major player for the remainder of the AGSV season.

Braydon O’Connor, Marcellin

A century of 112 against Assumption was the highlight for Braydon O’Connor who sits third in the leading run scorers this season. He also scored 29 and 37 for Marcellin who have a win-loss record of 2-1.

Thomas Kenny, Marcellin

Wickets have been flowing for Thomas Kenny this season. He has taken a total of nine wickets which stands as the most in the competition. Kenny has been consistent as well grabbing two or more wickets in each of his three games. With the bat, he has made handy contributions with scores of 23*, 23 and 17*.

Adam Li, Camberwell

Adam Li has been a consistent performer with bat and ball for Camberwell this season. From three matches, he has taken a wicket in every game and has only been dismissed once by run-out. Li has scores of 38*, 39 and 5* and has taken five wickets for the season highlighted by 3-33 from 9.1 overs against reigning premiers Trinity.

Lucas Cavigan, Assumption

From just two innings, Lucas Cavigan has fired this season with 198 runs. He scored an unbeaten century of 131 against Ivanhoe in Round 3 featuring three sixes and 11 fours. Cavigan is the second highest run scorer in the competition. He scored a 67 against Marcellin and has been a strong contributor to the team’s undefeated start to the season with two wins from two matches.

Fayzan Abdul Sathaar, PEGS

It has been a tremendous start to the AGSV cricket season for Fayzan Abdul Sathaar. The all-rounder has taken the second most number of wickets in the competition with seven and he scored a half-century of 60 against Mentone Grammar.

Jett Mikedis, Marcellin

It was a dream start to the AGSV season for Jett Mikedis who notched a century of 102 opening the batting to steer his side to a solid victory over Camberwell. He then fell short in the following game with two but came back into the runs in his last game before the break with a handy 29.

Lachlan McNamara, Mentone

With six wickets, Lachlan McNamara is coming third in the competition’s leading wicket takers this season. He took a 5-36 from 15 overs against PEGS and 1-6 off five overs against Yarra Valley. His consistency has stood out and remains a player to watch. His side have won both their two games to start the season.
