As another AGSV season approaches, Leader Cricket takes a look back how every school has gone this century. Every premiership since 2000 mentioned:

The AGSV cricket season is back with play set to begin this Saturday, October 15.

Trinity are the reigning premiers of the competition and will go for their third title in four seasons.

There is no doubt PEGS will challenge them having been around the mark in the last few years.

We take a look at every school’s history since 2000 heading into the 2022 campaign.

ASSUMPTION

Last season: 3rd (6-0-2)

Assumption have the third-longest running premiership drought of 13 years in the competition. Before this hiatus however, they won four flags in seven years. It began in 2003 which was followed by a title in 2005 and then back-to-back premierships in 2008 and 2009.

After finishing in the top four the past three season, maybe this is the year they lift the cup.

CAMBERWELL

Last season: 4th (5-0-3)

Camberwell have the equal-longest running premiership drought in the AGSV at 19 years with Ivanhoe.

Their last premiership was in 2002 where they were joint three-way winners with Camberwell, Ivanhoe and Marcellin.

They came second in 2003, the year after winning the premiership, and equal third in 2004.

Since 2004, they haven’t finished inside the top three. They got close last year however.

IVANHOE

Last season: 5th (4-1-3)

Ivanhoe last won a premiership in 2002, most likely before any of the current players would have been born.

They hold the equal-longest current premiership drought in the competition at 19 years with Camberwell.

Their premiership win marked back-to-back titles after winning in 2001.

Ivanhoe have been close to breaking the drought over the years, coming third in 2017, second in 2012 and third in 2008.

MARCELLIN

Last season: 6th (3-0-5)

Marcellin’s last premiership came in 2015.

Through the 2000s, they dominated winning flags in 2000, 2002 and 2007 (joint with Trinity).

MENTONE

Last season: Equal 7th (2-1-5)

Mentone last premiership came in 2017 after they won the title in 2015, 2012 and 2010 (joint winners with PEGS).

They are arguably the best team in the competition since 2000 having won titles in 2000, 2004 and 2006 as well.

In total, it has been seven premierships in 22 years, marking a stunning feat for the school.

PENINSULA

Last season: Equal 7th (2-1-5)

Peninsula last won a premiership in 2016.

It has been their only flag this century.

PENLEIGH & ESSENDON

Last season: 2nd (6-0-2)

PEGS won premierships in 2020 and 2018.

Prior to this, they won a flag in 2010 as joint winners with Mentone.

TRINITY

Last season: Premiers (6-1-1)

Trinity have arguably been the best team in the last decade having won premierships in 2022, 2019 and 2013.

As reigning premiers and the most successful team in recent seasons, they are set to be a strong contender this campaign.

Trinity also shared a premiership with Marcellin in 2007 after finishing the season on equal points.

YARRA VALLEY

Last season: 9th (0-0-8)

Last won premierships in 2014 and 2011.

A difficult season last time around where they didn’t register a win.
