Josh Walker, Will Townsend, Lucas Cavigan and Tom Mileto were in the runs in the latest round of APS and AGSV cricket.

Make that four centuries for Josh Walker in APS First XI cricket.

After a quiet start to the season the Wesley College left-hander hit form in a thrilling match against Xavier College last Saturday.

Walker was run out for an even 100, off 144 balls and with six boundaries.

But it wasn’t enough to give Wesley victory.

The match was tied, with Wesley College scoring 7-221 in reply to 8-221.

Patrick Forrest, who is playing Premier Cricket with Camberwell Magpies, led the Xavier College card with 82 not out, off 92 balls.

Xavier Austin (30) gave the innings some late fizz.

Walker scored two centuries for Wesley last season on his way to topping the competition run list, and he also hit three figures in 2019-20.

He’s not attached to a Premier club, having focused more on football: he was on the books at Oakleigh Chargers in the NAB League in 2021 and hopes to be again this year.

Walker has plenty of good advice available to him at school: former Sri Lankan Test player Prabath Nissanka is Wesley’s head coach, Thilan Samaraweera the batting coach, Damien Fleming the bowling coach and Prahran assistant Michael Cove is a specialist coach.

Runs flowed like water as Scotch College, where Geelong Grammar put in a sterling run chase to win by one wicket.

It finished at 9-278 in answer to 3-274, fired by Oliver Peake’s 68 and good contributions from Alex Hatzoglou (47) and Oliver Hollands (40).

Will Townsend had played a dazzling knock for Scotch, cracking 146 not out off 140 balls. There were 11 fours and 1 six.

The previous day he had blitzed 109 not out off 65 balls in the T20 fixture against St Kevin’s College.

With 356 runs from five hands Townsend is second on the run chart, behind Peake (402 at an average of 134).

In other Round 6 matches:

Captain Archie Bain hit 72 to lead Geelong College (7-189) past Brighton Grammar (187), for whom Freddie Smith took 4-33 off 9.5 overs.

Melbourne Grammar (6-166) eased past Caulfield Grammar (164), with Nick Sharpin (4-27) and Oliver Will (54) the leading hands.

St Kevin’s College opening bowler Jordie McElhone grabbed 4-14 as his team, defending 152, ran through Carey Grammar for 72.

In the AGSV, Assumption College opener Lucas Cavigan batted through the innings for 119 not out against Mentone Grammar at Kilmore’s Carroll Oval.

Cavigan, coming through quickly at Premier club Essendon, faced 160 deliveries, put away 10 fours and 1 six, and took his side to 2-220.

Mentone Grammar was knocked over for 86 in the reply, Riley Gaylard (3-19 off seven overs) doing early damage with the ball.

Ivanhoe Grammar School’s Tom Mileto was also in the runs, spanking 114 not out in a thumping win over Yarra Valley Grammar.

Mileto received 107 balls for his 114 not out and struck 4 sixes and 11 fours.

Ivanhoe rattled up 3-261 and dismissed its opponent for 153, Jules Tragardh collecting 4-35 off 10.3 overs.
