The toilet block was demolished as part of major works including the $13 million revamp of Young St and $50 million rebuild of the train station.

In its place, a portaloo has been installed — but that’s just for bus drivers, leaving shoppers and commuters at the mercy of Young St traders letting them use their facilities.

And a fix is still months away, according to the council and State Government.

Traders including Cafe Buenta operator Con Markopoulos told the Leader infuriatedshoppers and commuters were constantly asking to use toilets in nearby businesses.

“People are coming in everyday and asking ‘Do you have a toilet’,” he said.

“We need it replaced as soon as possible. It can’t wait any longer.

“They have built this nice street and to have a portaloo (solely) for the bus drivers does not look good.”

Frankston councillor Steve Toms, who lives in central Frankston, said people always believed the toilets were being replaced.

“It was my understanding they would replace the toilet block,” he said.

Mayor Colin Hampton said the council was in negotiations with the State Government about the issue.

“Council is in discussions with the government on the location of the temporary public toilets in Young St until permanent toilets are installed next year,” he said.

Frankston Labor MP Paul Edbrooke said a near permanent public toilet block — new the previous one — was slated for construction early next year. “We thank everyone for their patience as we continue to transform the Frankston Station precinct for passengers,” he said.

Government officials confirmed temporary toilets were under discussion.
