OFFICIALS are tight-lipped over whether parts of the $13 million Young St revamp will have to be modified because buses can’t fit in new bays.
Young St workers who witnessed a recent bus trial told the Leader it was clear the buses could not fit in some of the bays because they were too small.
A trader, who didn’t want to be named, said he was stunned VicRoads, which oversaw the works, didn’t pick up the mistake earlier.

“If we can see it’s too narrow why can’t they?” he said.
Some of the bus bays were being used by mid last week, however, plastic was wrapped around signage at other bays that were not in operation.
Deputy mayor Steve Toms said the bus bays would have to be reconfigured.
“I can see with my own eyes the buses simply don’t fit,” he said.
“There’s no way they will fit in the marked bays.”
A spokesman for Ventura buses, declined to comment.
Leader understands Frankston Council officials have been told by VicRoads that it will be at least four weeks before buses are fully operational in Young St.
Frankston state MP Paul Edbrooke refused to answer questions and referred the Leader to VicRoads senior official Brendan Pauwels.
In a brief statement, Mr Pauwels said: “Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians will be able to enjoy the new Young St redevelopment as we return traffic to the road in both directions.
“Recent bus trials have been completed and we are working through the operational details to get the buses back into full service as soon as possible.”
