Strategy: “We want to get a squad together that can compete week in, week out,” Panthers coach Tom Donnell said.

“If we can add a few more to the top grades that can compete then the guys in the threes and fours that are really young can develop further.”

Strategy: “That’s for the now, but these (young) players we’ve brought in are also future-proofing us for three, four, five years’ time when your Ejaaz Alavis, Liam Banthorpes and Jack Rudds are not playing,” Lions coach Matt Bremner said.

“They’re not only potentially First XI players for this year but we’re hoping long future First XI players as well.

“We’re really excited with what our future looks like.”

“Sometimes the right people are better than the best people.”
