Casey South Melbourne captain Luke Shelton says the Swans’ latest signing puts the list “right up there” with the best he’s seen at the club.
The Swans signed Jackson Isakka, who played a handful of games for Frankston Peninsula last summer after successful runs in Darwin and Sydney grade cricket.
Isakka’s addition comes after the Swans brought in Matt Calder but lost Lachlan Sperling and Michael Wallace.
“It’s right up there,” Shelton said when asked if the list rivals the best in his time.
“Obviously with Sperlo (Lachlan Sperling) and Wally (Michael Wallace) moving on, they’ve been unbelievably good for our cricket club and we’ll miss them.
“We had to find a way to continue to push forward after losing those guys, we were lucky enough to land Matty, Victorian Premier Cricket has seen how much talent he’s got and then throw in Jacko as well.
“It’s two guys that are a really good age who we feel are going to make us a lot better – it’s a lot of upside and we’re looking forward to getting stuck in.
“They’re definitely going to make us pretty powerful all the way down with our batting to go with the mainstays there that know how to bat long periods.”
Isakka and Shelton have a connection through their time playing in Sydney.
Shelton knows all too well how good the destructive all-rounder can be.
“I have seen him at his absolute best, so I think the exciting part for us – and Premier Cricket in general – is I think they only got a glimpse last year,” he said.
“He’s only scratching the surface, hopefully we can see the very best of him because his very best is very good.”
