Navy blue is now Cameron McClure’s colour year-round.

When the paceman is not steaming in for Victoria, he will be doing it for Prahran, after shifting from Essendon to Toorak Park.

McClure, 22, has played 10 matches for the Vics but is tipped to be one of the big improvers in season 2023-24.

Prahran president Nigel Parsons said McClure’s raw pace was a need for the True Blues.

“We’ve seen with Ringwood what (Matt) Fotia can do, the reality is you need somebody who is quick and can knock sides over at the top, middle and back end – and he’s (McClure) clearly that,” he said.

McClure is the cherry on top of what has been a terrific off-season recruiting haul for the True Blues.

After winning the Victorian Premier Cricket club championship, Prahran wanted to maintain its depth by addressing certain needs at the top.

“We wanted to continue to strengthen our depth,” Parsons said.

“Specifically how we take 10 or potentially 20 wickets, it becomes a critical piece of winning at the back end.

“Getting (Tom) Brookes, (Saksham) Kapoor, (Bailey) Toseland, (Brodie) Symons, they’re all in that strategy of how we mix and match our bowling attack to win when it counts, which is at the back end of the year.

“They’re quality, not only in a cricket sense, but as people, which we think is a critical component to where we are at the club.

“Sometimes the right people are better than the best people.”

Prahran’s first XI finished minor premiers but lost the preliminary final to eventual premier Carlton.

The True Blues hold ambitions to raise a flag of their own and the president isn’t fussed on which grade it comes in.

“Any flag is important, it’s not just about the firsts,” he said.

“We have an ethos as Prahran that every side is as important as the other but clearly bringing in these recruits is going to make us a far more competitive.”
