Yarra Ranges Council street sign misspells Melbourne as Melourne
A typo on a Yarra Ranges street sign has left motorists baffled. It’s not the only embarrassing spelling mistake to pop up over the years.

Our city’s name has been misspelt on a Yarra Ranges Council street sign.
A resident shared a photo online of the new Old Melbourne Rd sign in Chirnside Park – but Melbourne has been misspelt as Melourne, missing the letter b.
Yarra Ranges Council’s environment and infrastructure director Mark Varmalis said the
council’s contractor would be replacing the sign at their cost.
“If community members notice any misspellings on road signs, we encourage them to contact us on 1300 368 333, to email us at mail@yarraranges.vic.gov.au or to contact us via social media,” Mr Varmalis said.
It’s not the first time a typo has caught the eye of motorists.
An eagle-eyed commuter snapped a picture of a sign on the Monash Freeway advertising the Springvale Rd exit to “Glen Waverly”.
Unfortunately for the sign-writer, the suburb doesn’t exist. But Glen Waverley does.
Swanston St was also renamed ‘Swanstog’ after a City of Melbourne printing error.
