Thieves steal dog from Coldstream Animal Aid kennels

Cruel thieves have snatched a beloved family pet from a Coldstream animal kennel and shelter, where he was staying while his owners were on holiday.

The family of a rescue dog, stolen from a Coldstream animal kennel and shelter while they were on holiday, have appealed for his safe return.

Bruno, the sharpei cross staffordshire terrier, was staying at Animal Aid while his fur parents were away, and was believed to have been stolen sometime in the early hours of Friday November 9.

Qwner Jessica Parcesepe said Bruno was the heart of their family and her husband was lost without the dog.

“We’re so sad to be without him,” Mrs Parcesepe said.

“My husband suffers from depression and anxiety and Bruno is always there to calm him.”

The couple adopted the four-year-old, three years ago, after foster carers had rescued the dog from death row at a Mildura pound.

Mrs Parcesepe said the dog needed a family who were home most of the time because he had separation anxiety.

“We hope they (thief) has a change of heart,” she said.

“We’re absolutely devastated. He is the heart of our family.”

Animal Aid chief executive Mark Menze said Bruno’s parents and the non-profit’s staff were devastated and were all appealing for community help to find him.

“This is an atrocious act,” Mr Menze said.

“We are taking this matter very seriously and have been assisting the Victoria Police crime investigation unit who are working diligently to retrieve this dog.”

He said Animal Aid had a very active community, both online and offline, and close ties with councils, vets and grassroots networks.

“We need everyone to rally together to help us fund Bruno,” Mr Menze said.

“We are concerned for this dog’s welfare. We know that with your help, we can get him home.”

Mr Menze said Bruno was a beloved family pet, who was friendly and loved cuddles.

“He relies on the assurances he receives from this family and home life, he can be startled from loud noises and new places,” he said.

“It is so important that Bruno is found and returned quickly.

“Bruno is microchipped and registered and has been reported as stolen with Victoria Police, Central Animal Records and councils.”

Yarra Ranges detective Sergeant Mick Duke said police were investigating the theft of a dog from the Killara Rd animal shelter sometime between 6pm and 8am on November 8 and 9.

Anyone with information is urged to phone 9739 2342 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
