MORE than 200 cats and kittens are patiently awaiting their forever home at Coldstream’s Animal Aid after a bumper breeding season.
The shelter is looking after about 90 adult cats that have been desexed while there are more than 100 kittens in foster care.
Animal Aid community engagement manager Elle Ammann said it was always a hard time of year.
“Our cats are all aged between nine years old and eight weeks old,” Ms Ammann said.
She said many of the kittens had been brought in after pets became pregnant and the family could not rehome the offspring.
“It’s important to educate how important desexing your cats are,” Ms Ammann said.
“Cats as young as four months can get pregnant and can get pregnant again while weaning.”
While the shelter staff will rehome all the cats Ms Ammann said they were appealing for members of the community to come down and have a look at all the gorgeous feline friends.
“We’re open from 11am to 4pm every day of the week,” she said.
