Maroondah Council has received an application for a double-storey childcare centre at the old Clean Zone car wash site at 208-210 Canterbury Rd.
A developer purchased the site at auction for $1.84 million in August.

The proposed centre would have capacity for 94 children and 20 underground car spaces.
Maroondah Mayor Rob Steane said the council had recently received the application and expected it to be advertised in coming weeks.
Your Very Best’s Shelley Moredock, whose beauty salon looks out to the abandoned car wash on the opposite side of Canterbury Rd, said she was glad to see progress at the site.
“It’s exciting to have a new business in our exciting precinct,” Ms Moredock said.
“I’ve heard schools in the area are chock-a-block, so I imagine there’s a need for it.”
Meanwhile, a little further down the road, the former Ringwood Anglican Church site sold to an unknown developer for $3.4 million in November.
Gross Waddell sales agent Andrew Thorburn said the 2970sq m site at 203-205 Canterbury Rd received interest from local and international developers.
Mr Thorburn said the developer specialised in “all sorts of developments” but would only be able to do a housing project or a childcare centre due to residential zoning.
There are three privately-owned childcare centres spread throughout Heathmont.
