A woman travelling on a bus in Melbourne’s eastern outskirts approached a 15-year-old girl and violently attacked her after calling ‘grumpy” when she asked her about the music she was listening to.

Danelle Knape pleaded guilty to common law assault in the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Knape was travelling on the 683 bus to Wesburn on February 26 last year when a 15-year-old girl walked onto the bus and sat down.

Knape approached the teen, sat behind her and began asking her questions about the music she was listening to.

The teen gave her short replies before she put her earphones back on.

Knape called the teen “grumpy” before she threatened to smash her bottle of Baileys over her head.

She pulled the teens hair from behind and started punching her face.

Knape then raised the Baileys bottle over her head in an effort to hit the teen, but missed and smashed it on a pole.

She continued to hold the teen by her hair and punch her, until the teenager managed to escape her grasp, prompting Knape to exit the bus.

In court, Knape was told she was at a “real risk” of a jail term for her offending.

Knape — who was diagnosed with schizophrenia — asked for her matter to be adjourned so she could provide more psychological reports about her mental state at the time of the offending.

She will return to court on September 24.
