UPDATE: The RSPCA have seized a dog and are investigating after disturbing videos emerged online of teenage girls laughing as they encourage the canine to attack a live chicken.
One of the Facebook videos shows a girl shaking the chicken out of an animal transport holder, while the excited dog — adopted from the RSPCA — chases the chicken and the girls laughs and encourage the dog to “get it”.
The second video shows the terrified chicken hiding near a shed, while the dog attempts to nudge it out, as girls off screen giggle and excitedly encourage the dog to attack the bird.

The videos have been shared more than 5200 times, causing mass community outrage.
A Facebook post said the chicken died in the attack.
A concerned community member, who did not want to be named, alerted Lilydale & Yarra Valley Leader to the videos and likened the incident to training dogs how to fight.
“This behaviour in young teenagers and particularly girls is unusual and disturbing to say the very least and needs to be addressed,” she said.
“Regardless of if it’s a silly prank or something more sinister, it needs to be addressed.
“Parents, teachers or adults who know these girls need to be made aware of it and deal with any other similar behaviour.”
RSPCA Victoria chief executive Dr Liz Walker said she was deeply distressed by the footage on Facebook and for the suffering endured by both the chickens and the dog.
“RSPCA Victoria can now confirm that the dog was adopted from one of our animal care sites, on Friday, February 22, in accordance with our standard internal policies and procedures,” Dr Walker said.
“RSPCA Victoria has now seized the dog and it is currently in our care. We are looking into the matter and can’t provide any further information at this stage.”
Animal Aid chief executive Mark Menze labelled the behaviour as “vile” and called it an “evil act”.
“To seek the suffering of any animal is absolutely barbaric and these actions must be met with harsh repercussions,” he said.
“This video is chilling to see. We work every day to rehabilitate and provide a refuge for animals who have been subject to abuse and human unkindness, and we will continue to do so for as long as people like this exist.”
Yarra Ranges detective Senior Constable Andrew Clapham said police had cautioned the girls, who were from rural Victoria and not within the Yarra Ranges.
