Safety improvements to a busy Chirnside Park intersection don’t go far enough, a driver says.
Yarra Ranges Council will start more than $900,000 works to at two intersections installing traffic lights and pedestrian crossings at Edward and Switchback roads, and Blacksprings Rd and Kimberley Drive in March.
Money for the projects have come from the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery program, the council has contributed and also levied cash from developers.

But Ian Harvey, who lives nearby, said while the lights were a good idea, there needed to be speed reductions on Victoria Rd.
Mr Harvey said with the impending arrival of more residents into the suburb because of the housing developments, which were almost finished, there would be even more traffic on the busy Chirnside Park roads.
But others had larger plans in mind to deal with the traffic problem on Main St, Lilydale, which causes drivers to use the back roads through Chirnside Park.
On the council’s Facebook page Adam Dvsn said: “Just build the Lilydale bypass and we wouldn’t need these lights.”
“Traffic would stop taking these roads in an attempt to avoid the bottleneck of Lilydale Main St,” Mr Dvsn said.
Cr Richard Higgins said both pedestrians and drivers would benefit from the improvements.
“These are both long-awaited project which will reduce time for residents waiting in traffic and encourage people to drive safely, while keeping pedestrians safe and giving them confidence when crossing these busy roads,” Cr Higgins said.
Casey federal Liberal MP Tony Smith said the money would provide safer roads and intersections.
“We all wants safer and better local roads,” Mr Smith said.
