A Doreen man is warning other pet owners in the area to be cautious after his cat was viciously sprayed with paint in a shocking case of animal cruelty.
Michael Harding said his wife phoned him on Saturday afternoon concerned their family cat Chilli was covered head-to-toe in paint.
“He was completely covered — from the whiskers down to his legs and all the way to the tip of his tail,” he said.

“My wife tried to wash him, but the paint wasn’t coming off.”
A veterinarian later confirmed the 3-year-old feline had been spray-painted.
Chilli was then sedated where a team of veterinarians tried to remove the paint, but to no avail.
The only remaining option was to shave Chilli’s fur off.
Mr Harding said anyone who would do such a thing to a helpless animal was “sick”.
“My two kids were very distraught — they have another two cats so immediately went looking for them and kept them inside,” he said.
“It’s a concern that someone this close to home would do such a thing to an animal.
“There are plenty of cats and dogs in the street so pet owners should be mindful of where their pets are while these people who have done this to our cat are still out there.”
RPSCA Victoria has been contacted for comment.
