Pet owners have been warned to keep an eye on their fur babies after a woman’s cat was brutally attacked while it was lounging outside an Elwood apartment building.
Biscuit, the black moggy, had injuries consistent with having been “kicked” to the head when owner Lindsay McConnon found him bleeding from the eye, nose and jaw about 8am on January 3.

She found blood spatters near Biscuit’s favourite place to sit on the front fence, she said, and the vet initially told her he may lose his eye. “An experienced vet believes he has been kicked … it was just awful to see this beautiful gregarious cat have the stuffing kicked out of him,” she said.
His vet bills cost her and her husband $1500, and she said they expected there would be ongoing costs.
A neighbour told her they’d seen an intoxicated young woman in the street only hours before Biscuit’s horrific injuries were discovered, she said, and she believed a rise in the number of unsavoury characters hanging around in the area had led to the “vile” attack.
RSPCA figures show there were 84 reported incidents of animal cruelty in Port Phillip last financial year, 84 in Stonnington and 103 in Boroondara.
RSPCA Victoria chief executive Dr Liz Walker said providing insufficient food, water and shelter made up the highest proportion of offences.
