Fawkner Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Stephen Little said the Bulla and Sunbury areas, Tullamarine Freeway and Sydney Rd were again trouble spots for police.

“We’re still picking up a lot of offenders in the Bulla and Sunbury region where there were three fatalities last year for excessive speed so it’s still a concern that people aren’t really heeding the message,” he said.

Sgt Little said they also detected a number of drivers travelling at more than 150km/h in 80 zones on freeways.

“We’ve had two fatalities in our region just in the new year already,” he said.

“(Drivers) are not receiving the message that these speeds do kill people.

“We just want people to slow down and obey the rules – it’s not just you out there.”

Operation Roadwise statistics reflect enforcement from lunchtime on December 19 to midnight on January 5 due to police industrial action at the start of the operation.
