Three men arrested after spate of burglaries in Glenroy, Fawkner and Brunswick

Tens of thousands of dollars worth of golf gear, a $70,000 Mercedes Benz and credit cards were stolen from homes and a club in Glenroy, Fawkner and Brunswick during a wave of holiday thefts. Police are now urging homeowners to be vigilant.

The prestigious Northern Golf Club was burgled on January 3 and again on January 4 with $10,000 worth of clubs, clothing and shoes allegedly grabbed in the raid.

And, during a spate of home break-ins in Glenroy, Fawkner and Brunswick a $70,000 Mercedes Benz was allegedly taken on Boxing Day.

Detectives are also probing an aggravated burglary in Brunswick in the early hours of December 27 when a wallet was taken from inside a Grantham St home.

The intruder broke in between 4am and 4.30am while the occupant was asleep and later used the victim’s credit card numerous times in Brunswick and Coburg.

Detectives have released an image of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the theft.

He’s described as aged in his 50s, 170cm tall and wearing black rimmed glasses, a black cap, a black hooded top and blue jeans.

Moreland detective Sergeant Jarrod Weddle said police arrested a 27-year-old man on December 30 after he allegedly broke into a Salisbury St home in Glenroy on Boxing Day to steal the Mercedes.

He was remanded to face court later this month on charges of aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, theft and driving offences.

Detectives also arrested a 30-year-old man on January 4 while searching a house in Glenroy, where the allegedly stolen golfing items were found. It’s alleged the club was burgled on January 3 and 4.

The Glenroy man was remanded to reappear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’s Court later this month.

Sgt Weddle said a 36-year-old Taylors Lakes man was also arrested on December 31 in connection to three burglaries in Lynch and Sydney roads in Fawkner on December 5 and 7.

He has been charged with aggravated burglary, burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and bail breaches and was remanded to face court on January 30.

“It’s a reminder for residents to secure their properties and vehicles over the holiday season,” Sgt Weddle said.
