VTCA Team of the Week: Clubs represented from across the competition

It was the all-rounders who dominated the latest weekend of VTCA action with several impressive displays. Here’s who made our Team of the Week.

Cummins cleared to play against South Africa

What a fascinating weekend of Victorian Turf Cricket Association action.

While there were no First XI centuries, there were several important innings with the bat.

Some of those players then turned heads with the ball.

Here is our VTCA Team of the Week.

SANJU JAYASEKARA (East Keilor)

The East Keilor keeper was in the thick of the action with the bat and in the field. He scored an unbeaten 64 before completing three stumpings and taking a catch during Williamstown Cong’s successful run chase.

CHARLIE THURSTON (Aberfeldie)

Played a match winning innings with the bat, scoring 75 runs from 62 deliveries. The English import also impressed with the ball taking 2-37.

VIRAJ LAKSHITHA (Haig Fawkner)

Lakshitha finished with his highest scoring of the season, 86 not out, as Haig Fawkner continued winning ways against St Albans.

SAKUN HETTIYAHANDI (Gellibrand)

Has made an impressive start to his time with Gellibrand with two half-centuries before Christmas. Scored 93 runs against Williamstown Congs on the weekend to push his season average up to 46.5.

GAYASHAN WEERASEKARA (Sydenham-Hillside)

The Storm star did a bit of everything in his side’s win over Doutta Stars. He produced an impressive 88 runs from 90 balls before finishing with 2-29 and a run out in the visitors’ run chase.

LIAM MCLAUGHLIN (Wyndhamvale)

Hit the highest score of his Wyndhamvale career after finishing with an unbeaten 98 after coming in at number six. Unfortunately he eventually ran out of partners as he fell narrowly short of triple figures.

PRANEETH JAYASUNDERA (Jacana)

An outstanding all round game from the Jacana star. Scored 74 runs after coming in at first drop and backed it up with 4-31 with the ball.

CHARITHA WIJESINGHE (Sunshine)

Enjoyed a brilliant all round game as his side recorded a massive Division 1 victory over Seddon. Wijesinghe hit 33 with the bat before turning it on with the ball finishing with 5-16 from six overs.

AZIZ ULLAH (Haig Fawkner)

Ullah broke his side’s Senior Division clash against St Albans open with a fantastic display. He took his second five-wicket haul of the season finishing with 5-16 after scoring 37 runs despite coming in at eight.

MALAKA WASAN (St Andrews Pascoe Vale)

Finished with the best figures of any First XI player at the weekend with 5-11 in his side’s loss to Keilor Park.

SAM CREA (Grand United)

The Gorillas’ coach was in brilliant form with the ball as he finished with season best figures of 4-17 against Sunshine Heights. Crea also had a run out.
