An Indonesian national living in Mildura has fronted court for her role in a car and truck collision that took the life of a 24-year-old-woman

Mella Christy, 30, fronted Mildura Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to one charge of driving dangerously causing death.

The charge is related to a collision between a truck and a white sedan on the afternoon of April 4 near the intersection of Main Ave South and Fifth St in Merbein.

Sadly, the passenger, a 24-year-old South Korean national, died at the scene.

Christy did not appear in person, but via a video link, much to Magistrate Michael Coghlan’s chagrin.

In a somewhat disjointed committal mention hearing, Christy told the magistrate, via an interpreter, that she understood the charges. She then pleaded guilty in both Indonesian and English before having her bail extended.

Christy was bailed to a Mildura address, had to surrender her passport, was ordered not to visit any points of international departure and was given strict instructions not to drive as she awaits the next phase of her case.

Christy’s next court appearance is slated to be in the County Court on November 11.
