A Mildura grub bashed a woman for refusing to have sex with him and later bragged to police that he shoved his fingers down her throat “like a f —king dog”.
Graham Oates fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to a string of charges including criminal damage and recklessly causing injury after the brutal hotel room assault.
The court heard Oates, originally from Tasmania, snapped after the woman rejected his sexual demands.
He straddled her, punched her in the face multiple times, and shoved his fingers deep into her mouth — causing serious dental damage and bruising to her neck.
The victim’s phone was also smashed during the incident.
Oates showed no remorse after he was arrested, referring to the woman as a “nutcase” and a “drug-f —ked idiot” in his recorded interview with police.
“I stuck my fingers in her mouth like a f —king dog,” he told police.
A powerful victim impact statement read in court laid bare the toll of the vicious attack.
“I am worried when he gets out he will kill me,” the woman said.
“It makes me feel sick when I think about it. I am constantly looking over my shoulder. I don’t know how he can do something like that.”
It was revealed in court Oates will live with his brother in Landsborough, near Ararat when he is released.
Magistrate Patrick Southey said the offending was “very serious” and had Oates not entered an early guilty plea, he’d have copped a six-month sentence and community corrections order.
Instead, Oates was handed four months’ jail and a 12-month CCO.
With 62 days reckoned as pre-sentence detention, Oates is expected to be released by mid-July.
