A motorcyclist was lucky to survive after his bike was torn in two when it slammed into a light pole in Bulleen.

The incident happened on Manningham Rd, near Egan Drive, when the rider lost control and skidded along the ground before crashing into the pole about 2.35am on March 23.

It’s understood about two thirds of his bike came to a stop about 40m away.

But the extent of his injuries is unclear after he apparently panicked and fled the car of a witness who offered him a lift to hospital.

Nunawading highway patrol Sergeant Paul Egan said police had managed to track down the previous owner of the motorcycle — who sold it last year — in a bid to catch up with the rider.

He said anyone with any information should contact police at Box Hill on 8892 3200 or Crime Stoppers.
