Every day in 2023, one person has died on regional roads in Victoria. Now there’s been another two deaths in 24 hours as families mourn their loved ones.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

One person has died on regional Victorian roads each day this year, with two tragic crashes occurring in less than 24 hours of each other.

12 people have died on regional roads this year compared to four last year, a 200 per cent increase.

Emergency services were called to Calder Highway and Glenloth-Charlton Rd in Teddywaddy about 7am on Thursday, January 12 following reports of a car on its roof.

Police believe the car had been there for a while.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man lost his life in Victoria’s northwest on Wednesday, January 11 about 3pm.

It’s believed the crash, which occurred in Laen East, happened when the driver of a truck smashed into a tree on Donald-Murtoa Rd.

Emergency services were called and worked on the man but were unable to save him.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Bordertown woman died in a car accident on January 9.

Friends and loved ones of Macey Inglis were devastated to hear of her sudden passing, with one friend saying she wished she “never let her go”.

“On Monday morning she came in and woke me up at 6am gave me a hug and kiss and said goodbye — I wish I had never let her go,” Shania Willemsen said.

“We were meant to be heading to a rodeo next weekend at Penola together.

“So I just said to drive safe and I’ll see you next weekend.”

“It’s never going to be the same that’s for sure.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision, has dashcam footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
