Designer to the stars Rebecca Vallance knows a thing or two about making bold fashion statements, but one trend she won’t embrace anytime soon is the return of low-rise jeans.
The designer, who ventured to Melbourne to launch her fourth store at Westfield Doncaster, joked that the questionable noughties trend will not appear in her upcoming collections.
“I understand there are a lot of people who like them at the moment, but they’re not for me. You’re not going to see them in the Rebecca Vallance collection in the next 12 months,” she laughed.
Known for her luxe silhouettes and feminine pieces, Vallance says she finds inspiration in the small things – travel, books, art, sometimes even music.
“Personally, inspiration is gathered a lot from travel from different places that I go to I love. I’ve just been to Portofino in Italy recently, and just watching how the women dress there. It’s so incredible,” Vallance said of her creative inspirations.
It’s been a busy few months for the jetsetting designer, after recently attending Cannes Film Festival with good friend Nicky Hilton, who she created a custom gown for.
“Going to the Cannes Film Festival was a fairy tale moment. It was so wonderful and to do it with one of my gorgeous girlfriends, Nikki Hilton, it was so special,” she said.
“Nicky and I are very similar in what we like, and there was definitely a margarita involved. We do love having our glam done together and lots of laughs.”
Just this week, her gowns featured in the bridal party at Gossip Girl actor Ed Westwick’s Italian nuptials while new mum Hailey Bieber, Lady Gaga and Chrissy Teigen are also fans.
Speaking of big names, a who’s who of Melbourne’s social scene turned out to celebrate Vallance’s new boutique on Wednesday – actor Olympia Valance among them.
She said she was enjoying her “first night out glammed up” after sharing news last week of her “miracle pregnancy” with husband, former Essendon ruckman Thomas BellChambers.
Valance, who is 25 weeks pregnant, said she and the homegrown designer had long been friends, first connecting over their surname, which is just spelt differently.
“We have been friends for years, we sort of became friends at first because of the last name,” Valance said at the Westfield Doncaster store opening.
“But Rebecca has always been so supportive of me and obviously all her clothes are just like wow. For some reason every single piece just fits my body type to perfection – even with the bump – although I squeezed into it,” she laughed.
“She really has it all.”
