The Masked Singer Australia: Lindsay Lohan takes her place as filming starts

Channel 10 shocked everyone by hiring Lindsay Lohan to judge The Masked Singer, the network’s big budget ratings hope. The appointment has already generated plenty of headlines, but will anyone actually tune in to watch?

As filming gets underway on The Masked Singer, the hiring of ageing party girl Lindsay Lohan as a judge on Channel 10’s new big budget ratings hope remains utterly baffling.

Lohan, who has been more of an afterthought than a headline star for the past decade, has taken her place alongside fellow judges Dannii Minogue, Dave Hughes and Jackie O, who must successfully guess the identity of the celebrity singers performing disguised as giant rabbits, peacocks, a lion, a prawn and a werewolf.

Just how will Lohan, who presumably has little to no idea of local Australian singers, pick the stars through the sound of their voice and some clues?

One thing for certain though is Lohan will have generated so much press (good and bad) by the time the show goes to air that Ten will be able to say whatever it has cost to get her to be part of the show, the investment will have been worth it.

Comments by Hughes about Lohan’s cigarette breaks and her note-taking assistant have already made news on international celebrity sites. But a bigger question is will viewers care about her and will they watch Ten’s oversized performing menagerie?

And with the Lohan type of celebrity — that of a star who went off the rails — being rolled out, who will Ten dig up next: Tara Reid? Brandon Davis? Charlie Sheen?
