A slip of the tongue by her obstetrician left Channel 9’s Alicia Loxley completely unprepared for the birth of her daughter, Ada.
“We were sure we were having another boy. The obstetrician at about 32 weeks had said to Archie (her son) ‘come and have a look at your baby brother on the screen’ with a big pause and then added, ‘or baby sister’,” she said.
“So for the last eight weeks we really just focused in on boys names. It was a huge surprise when we had a little girl, so much so that for the first week I kept referring to her as he.
“She is three and a half months old now and I still catch myself, I can’t quite believe I have a daughter. We are really thrilled.”
Ada has two big brothers, Archie, 5, and Ned, 3.

Loxley, who returned as Nine’s weekend newsreader this weekend, described life with three children as “organised chaos’’.
“I feel like the step up from two to three has not been as hard as perhaps I thought it would be,’’ she said. “But there are definitely moments when I feel like I am not coping that well and moments when it is going really well.”
