Beauty and brains are not mutually exclusive so cut the ignorant and insulting judgment, said former Miss Universe Australia Olivia Rogers following an outrageous attack by social media trolls.

A qualified speech pathologist, Rogers was stunned when a woman wrote on her Instagram page: “if I walked in and my son’s speechy looked like you, I would laugh and leave. What the hell is this dumb blonde going to teach him. So many mums would agree.”

Rogers, who is also a model, influencer, artist and positive body image advocate, described the cruel comment, which ignited further trolling, as ignorant, backwards and insulting and said her appearance had nothing to do with her professional capabilities.

“Basically what this women was saying, was based on my appearance only walking into the clinic she would think I was too stupid to do my job and that is so offensive and such a backwards way of thinking,” Rogers said.

“I thought we had moved past judging people solely on how they look.

“It is just so ignorant. Beauty and brains are not mutually exclusive. I think some people think that if you have one you don’t have the other, but it does not work like that.

“You don’t know what they have done to get to where they are and judging them based on their appearance or what they wear is completely unfair and unwarranted.”

Rogers said she hoped people thought before posting horrid comments in these anxious times.

“I think we all need to be kinder to each other, particularly this year,” she said.

‘‘With my speech pathologist job I don’t tell my clients what I do outside of my work because it is not relevant to my role.

“I am very lucky to be in the position I am in many aspects of my life, but it is the result of a lot of hard work and with their comments they are trying to take that away from me.

“I find that really difficult because I don’t think anything was handed to me.”
