MISS Universe Australia Olivia Rogers says people need to stop pretending they have a perfect life on social media.
“Everyone has highlights reels on social media,” Rogers said.
“There are so many beautiful amazing people on there ... and young girls put them on a pedestal and say: ‘I wanna be like them.’ But everyone has their own struggles and insecurities, and being open about that helps.
“We need to stop pretending our lives are perfect on social media,” Rogers said. “If I’m having a bad day, I’ll post about it. If I’m having a good day I’ll post about it. You need to be real.”
Rogers and former Australian Idol Natalie Gauci will attend a fitness fundraiser for Beyond Blue at Vermont Recreation Reserve on September 29.
All money raised will go to Olivia’s 845km charity bike ride, also for Beyond Blue, from Mt Gambier to Gawler, SA, in October.
Both Gauci and Rogers have struggled with anxiety and depression.
“Music was my muse, but I had to go beyond that to find my higher self,” Gauci said. “We should be practising mindfulness on a daily basis.”
Rogers said her anxiety came from model industry pressure. “I was super skinny and very unhealthy. I’m not sure what came first, anxiety around food, or lack of food causing more anxiety.”
She added: “I got through by talking about it, first with family and friends, then to a professional.”
