Neighboursstar Bonnie Anderson has spoken of her regret and remorse after lying to police to protect her drug-addicted ex-boyfriend.

The Logie-nominated actor found herself part of a real-life drama when she appeared in the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court last week after she was caught trying to cover-up for former boyfriend Matt Arnautovic.

“I made a mistake which I put down to my naivety and being overly trusting,” Anderson told the Sunday Herald Sun.

“It is a huge life lesson which I will learn from.

“I’m really glad it’s now something of the past that I can put behind me,” she said.

But while she is keen to put the incident behind her, it would seem that she has not completely cut ties with Arnautovic.

Despite being warned by Magistrate Tim Walsh that if “you lay with dogs you get up with fleas”, Anderson and Arnautovic have remained close.

He posed for photographs with her at the launch of the Black & White Moods book in Melbourne on June 26, using the name Matt Raymon.

The pair have known each other for seven years.

Anderson, who joined Neighbours in early 2018 to play Bea Nilsson, was in a relationship with Arnautovic when he sped away from police in Lilydale in the early hours of October 22, 2017, in Anderson’s blue Subaru Impreza.

Hours later, when police questioned Anderson as to where Arnautovic had been at the time of their encounter with him, she lied, saying he was with her at their Silvan home and she did not know who had been driving her car.

She was told to find out who was behind the wheel, but made no effort to comply with the police request.

Anderson, 23, has been in the public spotlight since she won Australia’s Got Talent as a 12-year-old in 2007.

She released her most recent single, Sorry, in April, and is signed to BMG music.

Her three-year deal with Neighbours sees her character, Bea, sing regularly.

Anderson pleaded guilty to failing to give information as to who was driving her car and failing to notify a change in her residential details within 14 days.

She was put on a three-month good behaviour bond without conviction and ordered to pay $500.
