Kyle’s big push for listeners to raise Melbourne ratings

Kyle Sandilands has put a call out to his Melbourne fans, asking them to recruit listeners to his KIIS FM breakfast show to give a boost to his flagging ratings.

Why Sandilands ripped King Charles' car

Desperate times call for desperate measures with Kyle Sandilands putting a call out to his Melbourne fans, asking them to recruit one friend each as listeners to his KIIS FM breakfast show to help him rise in the ratings.

And he also cheekily suggested a door knocking campaign could be on the cards.

Sandilands came up with the grassroots campaign ideas this week after sending the show’s resident sports bloke, Cooper Johns, out to a “hater’s” house in Sydney to try to get the switched-off resident to tune into The Kyle & Jackie O Show.

Johns’ apparent success in winning over a “hater” saw Sandilands immediately grab on to it as a possible solution to his lacklustre performance in the Melbourne market.

“That is one Sydney listener that you have corrected, now you will spend the next nine and a half years in Melbourne door knocking,” Sandilands quipped.

“As I said to Melbourne we are only 200,000 people off winning. All this bullshit that no one (listens).

“We have got 400,000 (listeners in Melbourne) already.

“If everyone in Melbourne just got one extra ... this is not asking a lot.

“You do something for me, you get one other gronk that does not listen to listen, and boom, we win.

“It is not hard, it is not science.”

Kyle Sandilands could do worse than making a couple of surprise visits to the Melbourne ’burbs.

While Sandilands’ listener recruitment drive was tongue-in-cheek, if he wants cut-through, headlines and positive engagement he could do worse than making a couple of surprise visits to the Melbourne ’burbs.

But that would require him to get his feet on the ground in Melbourne, something he has not done since the show launched into the southern market in April.

While the show sits on top of the FM breakfast ratings in Sydney, in Melbourne it is languishing way down the ratings ladder.

The Kyle & Jackie O Show made headlines during the week with co-host Jackie O Henderson revealing she went to rehab two years ago to deal with a prescription pill addiction.

It is also worth noting that the breaks have very much been put on the amount of crass and offensive language on the show.
