I’ve been ‘sacked’ from AFL Footy Show, Sam Newman claims

Sam Newman has said he was sacked from The Footy Show while claiming a new skill: the ability to predict the future.
Newman, who has a two-year deal with Channel 9 covering the 2019-20 period, will be part of the Sunday Footy Show, as well as a set of Footy Show-related specials, but will not be involved with the network’s new look, prime time, midweek Footy Show.

“If logically I have been on a show called The Footy Show for quarter of a century and The Footy Show is going on and I am not on it — it is just a tongue in cheek — if somebody wants to say I have been sacked, I am very happy to acknowledge that,” he said.
“I have said this plenty of times over the past 25 years, I am just filling in time until I am sacked and one day I will be right.
“And you know what, I have been proven right. Give me some credit for predicting the future.”
Newman said he had had preliminary talks with Nine as to what his Sunday Footy Show role would require.

The Thursday night show — or Wednesday, when there are scheduled Thursday night AFL matches — is the jewel in the crown of Channel 9’s suite of footy show offerings.
Anthony Lehmann and Brendan Fevola are tipped to be the mainstays of the rebirthed show, with Dylan Alcott and a female footy identity also expected to be prominent.
The panel-style footy-tainment show is tipped to launch on March 20 and expected to have guest appearances by comedians, along with past and present players.
