Why Chris Judd is happy just to be a ‘pure’ footy fan

Chris Judd has spoken candidly with ex-Blues teammate Marc Murphy about no longer playing the game he loves, and what’s igniting his passion in retirement.

Chris Judd has opened up about his family and post-footy life, revealing his four children are sports mad.

But the AFL champion says his eldest, son Oscar, prefers cricket to footy.

Judd spoke candidly with ex-Blues teammate Marc Murphy on his new podcast, On The Marc.

“It’s been nice to be a pure fan again,’’ Judd said of footy.

“(Oscar) he’s obsessed with cricket. Laser like focus on that at the minute. Think they often feel the pressure a bit when one of the parents is a footballer. (He says) cricket is the sport I take seriously and football is a bit of fun.

“He’ll enjoy his footy but at the minute he’s really focused on improving his cricket and taking that seriously.”

Judd and wife Bec have four children, Oscar, Billie and twins Tom and Darcy.

“I’m part-time aths training partner to my daughter, medium paced bowler to my eldest, the twins have just started jujitsu,’’ Judd said.

“With my shoulders I’m yet to put my hand up for the jujitsu partnership but I take them there.”

Judd said he’s enjoying his investment career trying to trade stocks and make some money.

“I’ve really enjoyed it, I was glad I was patient in myself,’’ he said.

“You retire from footy — it was all I ever dreamed of doing. I was wildly passionate about that from three or four years of age. People say you’ve just got to find a new passion. You’ve clearly got be patient for that passion to evolve.”

Judd and Murphy just had a trip to remember at the Super Bowl, including taking in the Phoenix Open golf and seeing Snoop Dogg.

Premiership captain at the Eagles in 2006, also on the losing end in 2005, he is yet to watch a replay of the grand finals.

“I haven’t watched either of them,’’ Judd said.

“I’ve watched the ’06 prelim before, catching up with some of the West Coast guys. That was more a memorable game in some ways, it was a 26-point comeback at half time in a low scoring game. The kids have pestered me to watch it but it brings back that same level of anxiety just watching it. I’m just not that interested in having that feeling.”
