Former Today reporter Alex Cullen has signed on for a new radio gig in Melbourne.

Almost six months after he was dumped by Nine for accepting a $50,000 gift from Block billionaire Adrian Portelli, Cullen’s next move is joining GOLD FM’s Christian O’Connell Show from July.

As the breakfast show’s new “resident sports guru” Cullen and his family will relocate from Sydney to Melbourne.

“This is such an exciting next chapter for me,’’ Cullen said.

“I actually started my career in radio, so to be coming back to it and joining a show that’s so loved and so full of heart is a real thrill. I can’t wait to be on air with Christian, Pats and Rio, and to get to know Melbourne — my family and I are thrilled to be making it our new home.”

Cullen was let go by Nine in January after he publicly responded to a challenge set by billionaire Portelli — a $50,000 prize for anyone to refer to him as McLaren Man instead of Lambo Guy.

Nine were not impressed with the network parting ways with Cullen without him having a chance to say goodbye to viewers.

O’Connell said he was thrilled to sign Cullen.

“AIex is a real talent and a very funny and likeable guy,’’ he said.

“I called him out of the blue a few weeks ago and we hit it off like old mates. He came over for a rigorous interview with me, that to onlookers may have looked like a long lunch with flowing red wine, but we bonded over being dads and a shared love of storytelling and how sport could be delivered on my show. I can’t wait for him to join my team and start working together, we are going to be like the Chicago Bulls of the 90s, or the Dees of 2021.”

Last month, O’Connell’s on-air co-host Jack Post quit his role after seven years.

“It has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make in my life,” Post wrote on Instagram.

“I love this show deeply, and it has given me so much. But there is something in my gut telling me it’s time to close this chapter and write the next one.

“It’s time to step away again, make space, and see what’s next.”
